He also teaches online courses as an adjunct faculty for Washington State Community College, Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College, Grantham University, and Franklin University. Before joining the academic sector, he spent six years in the corporate IT world, in London, England, where he worked as a systems analyst and project manager. He received a master of science degree in information system/management from the University of Phoenix, and a bachelor of engineering degree in electronics, communication, and computer engineering from the University of Bradford.

Alexander, Alexis

 Alexis Alexander is a high tech instructor at San Francisco City College and Merritt College, where she has been teaching students with disabilities for 13 years. For the last six years Ms. Alexander has been training faculty in the creation of accessible Web pages, development of online course materials, and online pedagogy. Her emphasis is on Universal Design in education, with a teaching methodology that meets the needs of all types of learners.

Alexander, Dr. Cynthia A. Dalton

Dr. Cynthia A. Dalton Alexander is the department chair for Educational Technology at Cerritos College and has been an online instructor for the past eight years. During that time she has developed over 25 online courses aimed specifically at teaching educators and future educators methods for integrating technology into teaching. Her course, Exploring Assistive Technology in Education, utilizes actual videos of students with disabilities accessing Web pages, and also uniquely employs hands-on exercises for students of the course that enable them to experience what it’s like to have auditory, visual, physical, or cognitive disabilities.

Anderson, Curt

Curt Anderson is associate director of Partnerships and Communication at University of California College Prep (UCCP), a state-wide UC program that publishes and distributes free online courses for students in high school and community college. Curt helps California schools, school districts, county offices of education, and other education organizations access UCCP’s high quality multimedia courses and content. In 2006 he helped develop a course delivery model in which UC-approved courses are taught by local teachers online.

Balch, David E.

Dave Balch is a professor at Rio Hondo College where he develops classes and teaches online in the Public Safety Department. Dave retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department after serving for 25 years. He was also assigned to the Sheriff's Emergency Operations Bureau and worked on the 1984 Olympics Security plans. He received his BS from California State University at Los Angeles, an MBA from Pepperdine University, and a PhD from Alliant International University.

Barnett, Dan

Dan Barnett is a philosophy instructor and coordinator of TMI (Technology Mediated Instruction) for Butte College, and has been teaching online since 2003. In 2004 his online Eastern Religions course was one of five courses honored with the WebCT Exemplary Course Project Award. He developed Butte College Chronicles in July 2005, the first community college podcast listed in the Apple iTunes podcast directory. He was a virtual presenter at last year's Online Teaching Conference and has conducted two desktop seminars on blogging for @ONE. He represents the California Educational Technology Collaborative (CETC) as Ambassador to Butte College.

Tania Beliz is a professor of biology at College of San Mateo. Since 1990 she has taught several biology courses at CSM. For the last three years she has taught online classes in general and plant biology, and health sciences. Tania Beliz holds a botany PhD from UC Berkeley.

Borcoman, Douglas

K.D. Borcoman is the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at California State University, Dominguez Hills and teaches online with Coastline, Columbia, and Cypress Colleges. He instructs traditional, online, and telecourses in philosophy, and has served as a mentor teacher-faculty trainer in technology and instructional design. Brichacek, Anne

Since 2001, Anne Brichacek has been an adjunct faculty member in the Computer Applications Systems at Chabot College. She created an online English class for non-native English speakers called Practical English. She taught classes (Going Online, Facilitating Online Discussion, and Redesigning Content for Online Instruction) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and briefly worked a shared position as Blackboard administrator, University of San Francisco. At Chabot College she has taught f2f Business and CAS classes, including Self-Paced Lab. In 2006 the Distance Education Committee approved the first online Self-Paced Lab courses, which she developed. Since then the number has grown to seven, including Business English Skills I & II, which she is teaching in spring 2008. Anne earned an MS in education with an emphasis on online teaching and learning from California State University, Hayward, in 2001.

Bill Brown is a multimedia specialist at Ivy Tech Community College. He is a former high school language teacher, and has worked for 12 years supporting and training faculty, and buying, deploying, and repairing a large inventory of multimedia presentation technology for Ivy Tech Fort Wayne. He has degrees from Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College, and certifications from IPFW.

Cañedo, Oscar

Oscar Cañedo has taught at various San Diego community colleges since 1997. He primarily teaches online sections of U.S. History and Chicano Studies at Grossmont and San Diego Mesa colleges, respectively. His teaching interests range from Aztec history to modern warfare, especially World War I and the Vietnam War. Outside of teaching, Oscar is an avid hockey fan, particularly the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks, as well as the "daddy" of six cats.

Couch, Stephanie

Stephanie Couch serves as the director of Statewide Initiatives for the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California. She also works part-time as Director of Communications, Outreach and Collaboration for the California Community College's California Educational Technology Collaborative. Prior to joining CENIC, Ms. Couch was the Director of Institutional Advocacy in the University of California’s Office of the President. Concentrating her career on improving California’s K-12 schools, she served as the education advisor to two Speakers of the California State Assembly, consultant to the Senate Appropriations Committee, and as an advocate in Sacramento, specializing in K-12 issues.

Deegan, Pamela

Pam Deegan is Interim Vice President of Instructional Services at MiraCosta College. She has worked in the California Community College system for 23 years, most recently as Vice President of Instruction at Mount San Jacinto College. Prior to her time at MSJC, she served in a similar capacity for six years at Miramar College in San Diego. Prior to Miramar, she was the Dean of Instruction at Santiago Canyon College in Orange from 1998 to 2000 and Irvine Valley College (IVC) from 1993 to 1998. Prior to beginning her administrative career, Pam served as professor of Health and Physical Education for 10 years at IVC and 7 years at California State University, Los Angeles.

Din, Herminia

Herminia Din is a faculty member at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Prior to this position, she was the Web producer at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and education technologist at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In the past few years, she has worked with the University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks onthe LearnAlaska project­an educational tool to sort, display and share digital museum objects and historical archive images selected from theAlaska Digital Archives. In 2005 she facilitated a docent-training program using Internet2 videoconferencing for a traveling exhibit in Alaska, “Light Motifs: American Impressionist Paintings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.” She is on the board of the Media and Technology committee of AAM. She was the MUSE Awards chair for two years and currently serves as the program chair. She holds a doctorate in art education from Ohio State University. Most recently, she co-authored the book “The Digital Museum: A Think Guide” published by the American Association of Museums.

Dixon, Jesse

Jesse Dixon is a professor in the Recreation and Tourism Management Program at San Diego State University. He is the primary adviser for the Systems Management Emphasis. Professor Dixon currently teaches a general education course (Recreation 304) as an online course. Professor Dixon has an interest in technology and the use of "visual imagery" to increase visual literacy for students. He completed his doctorate in Leisure Studies at the University of Illinois in 1977 and has been teaching at SDSU since 1979. Professor Dixon has published in numerous journals and completed chapters in several textbooks. He also has experience serving on community boards that address municipal services.

Bill Doherty is the Director of the @ONE project at Evergreen Valley College. Together with Pat James Hanz of Mt. San Jacinto College, he codirects the statewide grant that provides training on the use of technology for instructional purposes. Prior to @ONE, Bill served as interim director of the California Virtual Campus, Bay Area Region, where he established the Center at De Anza College. Bill has over ten years experience working in the California Community College System as a researcher, evaluator adjunct faculty member, and now as an administrator. Bill has a PhD in quantitative psychology from the University of Southern California, where he focused on the measurement of human intelligence. He also has a MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles. His passion is the use of technology to enhance human collaboration, learning, and development.

Eyestone, Donna

Donna Eyestone has been teaching multimedia in the Bay Area for over ten years. Her Digital Media Skills course has won awards for online learning from both @ONE and the U.S. Distance Learning Association. In 1999 she became a multimedia artist for Apple Computer, designing online training. She recently "retired" from Apple Computer to raise her daughter, but continues to teach part-time. In 1989 Donna completed a BA in computer music composition from Clark University. She received an MFA in electronic music recording from the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in 1993. In 1996 she completed an MFA in integrated electronics arts from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.

Felix, Jeffrey

Jeff Felix is the superintendent of the Bonsall Union School District in San Diego County. He serves as county technology chairperson and board member for the Classroom of the Future Foundation. His edublogging study represents the first research on the use of blogging as an instructional practice. His work has been peer reviewed and will be published in a journal from the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. His interest is in creating better learning opportunities for the Digital Age child, and implementing 21st century teaching and learning. David Francisco is one of the lead designers of MAP. He has worked at Saddleback College as a generalist and EOPS counselor for eight years.  David enjoys teaching Applied Psychology classes, providing academic, career and personal counseling to students, and has a particular interest in integrating counseling and technology. In addition to his work as a counselor, David is also the Saddleback College Articulation Officer and works with faculty, counselors and students on issues pertaining to transfer level coursework.

Kathy Fransham is the lead trainer for the ETUDES Project and assists with faculty support in the ETUDES Users Group and online training workshops. She is also involved with quality assurance testing, especially on the Mac, and is a major contributor in the design of support documents, user guides, and training materials. Kathy has a master's degree in instructional technology from San Jose State University.

Christopher Garcia is a graduate student at California State University at Long Beach in the Student Development in Higher Education option of the Counseling Master's Program. His thesis, Understanding the Perception and Experiences of Students and Counselors Engaging in Online Community Counseling, served as a measure of student satisfaction for the online counseling program created by his internship supervisor, Jim Smith. Jill Golden has been teaching at Orange Coast Community College for 30 years. Her passion is food science. Dr. Sheryl Hartman teaches Student Success courses for First Time College Students. Since she started teaching in 1982, Pat has been passionately involved in staff development that integrates technology into teaching and learning. She has been at Mt. San Jacinto College for 12 years, serving as department chair in multimedia and as distance education coordinator, and is now serving as a dean, responsible for the college distance education program. In the past few years, Pat has been a member of the Statewide Academic Senate Executive Committee, the CVC4, @ONE and CCSAT advisory committees, and DETAC and TTAC. Jones, Ida M.

Ida M. Jones is a professor in the Craig School of Business at CSU Fresno, an assistant in the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, and also teaches undergraduate and graduate business law courses. She earned her JD from NYU. Ida was the first recipient of the Verna Mae and Wayne D. Brooks Professorship, 1996 to 1999. In 2004 she earned a Certificate in Online Learning from UCLA. In 2006 she received the provost’s Technology in Education Award. She has authored/coauthored instructor's manuals for business law textbooks, prepared Internet-based textbook exercises, and published journal articles.

Keegan, Sean

Sean Keegan is the Web accessibility instructor/training specialist at the High Tech Center Training Unit for the California Community Colleges. The HTCTU conducts trainings and provides technical assistance to higher-education faculty and staff on the use of assistive computer technology for students with disabilities, the creation of alternate media, and improving Web access. As part of this continuing mission to improve access for students with disabilities, Sean conducts workshops and trainings in the area of accessible Web design, Web usability, captioning of Web-based multimedia, and the use of assistive computer technologies.

Patrick King has taught literature, Latin, and writing composition at various levels, mostly college. His expertise also includes computer-assisted instructional support, specifically the management of computer labs for instruction and general learning center services. He has taught English composition online for Ventura College for the last two years, mentoring for his colleagues and providing administrative support for the Distance Learning program. Patrick received an MA in comparative literature at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1987.

Alisa Klinger has been pursuing her passion for texts, technology, and teaching in computer-assisted classrooms and online for over a dozen years at colleges and universities in Toronto, Arizona, and California. For the past four years she has been teaching transfer-level English online at Cuesta College. Dr. Kuck is the executive director of Distributed Education and Technology Services for the San Bernardino Community College District. He provides vision and direction for all distributed education and technology-related activities within the District. Dr. Kuck was formerly an assistant professor and the founding director of the Loma Linda University Center for EMS Education and Research, and the director of the bachelor of science degree program in emergency medical care. Laumakis, Mark A.

Mark Laumakis is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at San Diego State University (SDSU). He teaches two large (500-student) sections of Introductory Psychology, one in a fully face-to-face format and one in a blended/hybrid learning format. Mark is also a faculty-in-residence in Instructional Technology Services (ITS), where he helps faculty members use technology both in the classroom and online. Current projects include the effective use of clickers in the classroom, and the introduction of blended and fully online courses at San Diego State University.

Leeman-Conley, Marsha

Marsha Leeman-Conley has been the Instructional Technology Coordinator at American River College for over eight years. In that time, ARC's online courses have grown from 12 to 262 per semester. The number of Web-enhanced courses has also grown to over 1100 per semester. Over 450 faculty have completed the Online Teaching Institute which she developed in 2001. She has more than 15 years of college-level teaching experience, including many online courses. She has many years of experience as an educational technology consultant and trainer before joining ARC. She is also a CETC Ambassador.

Karen Lim is a reading specialist at San Diego City College. She has been teaching developmental reading online for six semesters. Karen has taught at Loyola University of Chicago, Boston University, and Cornell University in Freshman Year Experience programs. During a sabbatical in 1996, she learned more about distance learning and creating online classes. Karen coordinates the staff development program and designed a two-day basic skills conference at City College this past year. Finally, Karen was past president (1993–1994) for the California chapter of the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). She was also the on-site chair for the national CRLA conference in 1994. She obtained her master’s in education in 1982 from Elmira College in upstate New York.

Laurie Lorence has taught developmental reading and teacher education classes for 15 years in both Seattle, WA, and San Diego, CA. Marome, Tahiya

Tahiya Marome is the technology training specialist at Foothill College. In addition to helping faculty access technology tools and teaching certification courses for ETUDES NG, she oversees the Faculty Multi Media Lab. She supports the faculty in creating and deploying various multimedia and interactive learning activities in online courses. In addition to a passion for technology and its potential as an education tool, Tahiya is an advocate of serious gaming and simulations for online learning, and a proponent of Universal Design for instructional delivery in all media. She received her master's degree in instructional technology from San Jose State University in 2005.

Marteney, Jim
 
Jim Marteney is a professor of speech and broadcasting at Los Angeles Valley College. His class has been written up in the Los Angeles Times as an engaging approach to teaching, “where the goal is to engage the class with information and make students respond and react.” As a distance learning trainer, Jim believes that by being creative and using the tools available, instructors can create a stimulating learning experience for their students. He holds a BA in speech and economics, and an MA in speech communication from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

McBride, Virginia

While actively teaching, Ms. McBride focused on communication issues, problems, and skills in both the written and spoken arenas within the California community colleges. She also served on numerous statewide technology committees in the Distance Learning Area. After retiring, she directed two statewide technology projects involving delivery systems using voice and data teleconferencing plus video delivery by satellite. She represented the systemwide chancellor's office on the Digital California Project, a K-20 effort. Her most recent work involves the building of virtual, collaborative teams that must plan for the future, solve problems in the present, and analyze the learning from the past to avoid duplicating mistakes. Lee Allan Sanders is the learning officer at University of California College Prep Online (UCCP). Lynn Sandoval is an adjunct instructor teaching online computer applications systems courses for Chabot College. In 1999 she started with Chabot as adjunct, assisting students in the CAS Self-Paced Lab. At the completion of the MA Program in 2001, she was hired as instructional designer to assist faculty in the design and development of Web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses. Susan Whitener is the dean of Learning Resources and Web Services with West Hills Community College District. She has been involved in distance learning technologies for over fifteen years. In her seven years at West Hills, the online program has grown from a smattering of 15 courses to over 140 sections each semester supporting the district college's FTE goals. Dean Whitener is now coordinating the district’s Datatel Web and Portal initiatives. Whitt, Terri

Terri Whitt has taught nursing for 35 years, most of which have been at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. She created the nursing program’s first interactive computer lab. She also created Saddleback’s first TeleEd program, enabling nursing faculty to teach live to four hospital sites, using their own IP lines with SMART room technology plus the visibility of ALL far-site students. She has now created ALFA (Assisted Learning For All), a no cost e-Learning Web site with over 140 captioned videos and ~55 podcasted videos. Having worked in four developing countries (Ethiopia/Eritrea, Belize, Thailand, Honduras), she envisions AFLA being used around the world in nursing education. AFLA’s goal is to become a universal procedure site for all nursing programs.

Dr. Debra Wright-Howard is the access technology specialist at San Diego City College, assisting students and faculty on issues of access and accessibility. Debra's High Tech Center teaches students with disabilities how to successfully use technology as a tool for success. She also works closely with faculty, instructional technology staff, and college administration to ensure that the learning environment (campus and online) is designed to accommodate all students. Yeager, Beth

Dr. Beth Yeager is Executive Director of the Center for Literacy and Inquiry in Networking Communities in The Gevirtz School, University of California, Santa Barbara. She provides overall content oversight for the CAHSEE Prep Initiative, is co-leader of the English Language Arts content development team, and co-director of the evaluation research component of the project. Dr. Yeager has almost 38 years of experience in pre-K-20, over 32 of those as a pre-K-12 teacher and teacher researcher in the California public schools. She has developed conceptual and practical models in use for collaborative professional development and grounded, generative curriculum design with both teachers and students using interactive video conferencing. Her research interests are focused on constructing disciplinary knowledge, practice, and academic identities, and, currently, in developing technology-enhanced models that support the construction of disciplinary knowledge and practice as well as professional development. Dr. Yeager is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the American Educational Research Association.
