Q: I want to learn more about technology, but I have so little time!
A: @ONE has several options for busy faculty and staff including:
- Lunch ‘n Learn Desktop Seminars are hour-long webinars created by expert faculty, conveniently scheduled during the lunch hour. Plus, if you miss one, it’s archived for you to access later.
- Self-Paced Courses with easy-to-use modules cover many of the same topics as our longer online courses or face-to-face trainings.
- Streaming Videos offer shorter tutorials.
Q: I have lots of questions about how to use technology in my classroom. Where can I go to get some answers?
A: @ONE works with California Community College faculty who have experience in many elements of instructional technology and has gathered best practices from throughout the state. You can ask questions of them directly through:
- Online Courses offer opportunities to delve into topics in-depth and get feedback on focused assignments. Requiring about ten hours a week for four to six weeks, they are well worth the time investment!
- In-Person Institutes offer the opportunity to spend three to five days in a face-to-face class. You’ll apply the information you learn to a project that you can put to use once you get home!
Q: I need to help others on my campus use technology more effectively. Can you assist with this?
A: @ONE makes passing information on easy.
- The downloadable Training Materials library includes ready-made trainings on topics ranging from PowerPoint to Creating an Instructional Website.
- Our Lunch ‘n Learn Desktop Seminars – hour-long webinars by technology experts – are archived so you can share what you’ve learned with others.
- Materials developed for our In-Person Institutes are designed so you can pass on key concepts.
Q: I want to learn more about how technology actually works in a community college setting. How can I find out about new trends and specific uses of technology?
A: @ONE’s programs are designed to be timely and are tailored to CCC concerns.
- The @ONE Scholars program funds CCC faculty to conduct research on the impact of technology in their own classrooms. The results of their research is posted on the @ONE website and presented at conferences throughout the state.
- Lunch ‘n Learn Desktop Seminars – hour-long webinars by technology experts – address popular and emerging technology issues in a CCC-specific context.
- @ONE’s Streaming Videos offer interviews with faculty and administrators on the use of technology on campus, ranging from building technology-enhanced facilities to practical classroom applications.
- Many of our downloadable Training Materials address best practices in instructional design related to technology use.
- Our seminars, courses, and workshops also address pedagological issues.
Q: How do I find a course that’s right for my technology proficiency?
A: @ONE offers courses geared to varying levels of technology experience and comfort. Our resources range from introductory information for Microsoft Word and Excel users, to multimedia tools for instruction, to high-level Official Microsoft Courses on issues such as networking, database development, and web design. Each course, workshop, and seminar spells out the required level of experience so you can find the right one for you.
Q: What topics do your resources address?
A: All topics are specific to the community college context and are developed and taught by expert faculty. Key topic areas include:
- Accessibility
- Advanced Technology for IT Professionals – networking, database development, and web design
- The Basics - introductions to technology concepts and tools
- Multimedia – web tools, podcasts, video, and visuals
- Online Teaching – best practices, course management systems, and pedagogy
- Student Support Services
- Technology Enhanced Instruction – how to use technology for onsite, hybrid, and distance education
Q: How much do your services cost?
A: Almost all of @ONE’s resources are free! There are two exceptions:
- Hands-On Institutes have a $75 fee to help cover meals at face-to-face trainings.
- Online courses cost $50, to help ensure that we have space for those eager to fully participate in the course.
Q: How can you offer such great resources, free of charge?
A: @ONE’s programs are underwritten by the California Community College Chancellor's Office Telecommunication and Technology Infrastructure Program (TTIP).
